SIEM REAP - CAMBODIA
Sister Srey Cafe is a social enterprise in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Established in 2012,
Sister Srey started as a place for “Good Coffee” whilst creating a supportive space to
educate and empower Cambodians.
Our vision at Sister Srey Cafe is to support young Khmer students who struggle to
keep a balance between studying and supporting their family. We are a stepping
stone to a brighter future and a means for these students to have skills and
knowledge to approach the world empowered and confident.
Leftover landmines from past conflict remain active and dangerous long after the
hostilities ended; causing terror and killing indiscriminately. APOPO, alongside local
partner the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) is conducting a humanitarian
landmine clearance program in Cambodia, targeting the most mine-affected villages
in order to return safe, productive land back to communities where it makes the
biggest impact. APOPO’s uses landmine detection rats fondly nicknamed
“HeroRATS” that are too light to set off the landmines and are very quick at finding
them, making them a perfect “tool” for speeding up detection and clearance.
Striving for a safer Cambodia, Sister Srey Cafe proudly supports APOPO with a large
chunk of its profits. You can pretty much justify a meal there any time because it’s for
a good cause. And let’s face it, coffee or lunch with friends is a much more appealing
way to donate to charity than running a marathon. To find out more about APOPO’s
work please visit: www.apopo.org.
Sister Srey supports the local and rural community through various activities such as
donating lunches to charitable events closest to our hearts, supporting small
businesses and farmers and collaborating with other social enterprises. At the cafe,
we are also extremely passionate about environmental sustainability, trying wherever
possible to reuse, reduce & recycle. We’re always looking for new ways to cut down
on our waste and help protect our beautiful planet!
Sister Srey is a cafe with a heart, a cafe with the desire to see change and with the
ability to do so.
